Skin induction therapy, or dermarolling, involves the insertion of a rolling or stamping device into the surface of the skin in order to induce collagen growth. In Dermarolling, microscopic wounds are created that stimulate collagen and elastin production. To achieve the best results, select a needle size of 1.0 and 1.5mm. 0.5mm derma rollers are suitable for treating skin that is thinner, such as the face, neck and other body parts. As well, derma rollers can harbor harmful bacteria that can cause infections, breakouts, and aggravate skin conditions such as rosacea, which causes redness and bumps on the face, eczema, which causes itchy inflammation spots, and melanomas, which are brown spots on the face.

Collagen is naturally formed over a period of one or two months, so it is important to take two treatments that should be separated by at least six weeks.

PROCEDURE
- During microneedling, growth factors are released into the papillary dermis, stimulating collagen (natural collagen) and elastin synthesis.
- Microneedling can be performed in the office. A topical anesthesia is applied for 45 minutes to one hour to anesthetize the area.
- Petechiae or pin-point bleeding can be controlled easily after preparing the area by rolling 15-20 times in horizontal, vertical, and oblique directions.
- Wet saline pads are used to moisten the area after treatment. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the procedure takes 15 to 20 minutes.
- The procedure is well tolerated, but patients may experience erythema following the procedure, which lasts between two and three days. A photoprotective cream is recommended for a week as a routine and antibiotic cream may be prescribed locally. It is possible for patients to return to work the next day.

After using the roller (you are gently rolling the needles over your skin), you may feel a slight tingle, similar to a sunburn. People with sensitive skin might experience a little soreness afterwards. No downtime is involved with Micro Needling. We recommend that you Derma Roll in the evening and then apply your nighttime skin care routine (don’t wear make-up immediately after Derma Rolling).
You might also see temporary redness for a few days after the procedure. Minor skin irritation is the most common side effect (it feels like sunburn for most people.) Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or have certain skin conditions (like psoriasis or eczema).
Your skin’s sensitivity to treatments and the presence of other treatments will largely influence your decision. You will understand how your skin reacts to the derma roller after using it for the first time. Start with derma roller use once a week and continue to increase the frequency to twice a week once you have established a routine. Derma Rollers should not be used every day.

Post-derma rolling skin care should focus on hydration (not drying), so be sure to use something like Hyaluronic Acid (HA), Vitamin C or a luxurious facial oil.
