DERMAPLANING

Dermaplaning involves exfoliating your skin and removing dirt and hair, better known as “peach fuzz.”  A tool known as a “dermatome” or a scalpel is used for dermaplaning. Dermaplaning basically involves shaving. You can remove dead cells, scar tissue, and other debris from your skin’s surface by aiming a sterile blade at a 45-degree angle and dragging it across it slowly. As dermaplaning removes only the vellus hair – not the hair permanently – it temporarily removes all of the facial hair. Many patients are concerned about hair regrowth after dermaplaning. A professional dermaplaning removes dead skin cells that have accumulated over the course of 21 days.

PROCEDURE TIME

It takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete the procedure.

DURATION OF ACTION

Dermaplaning sessions usually last around 30 minutes and do not require any downtime.

RISK & COMPLICATIONS

Common side effects include breakouts, infection risk, redness, discoloration, and irritation.

BACK TO NORMAL

The new cells revealed by the treatment eventually become dead skin cells, so does the hair removed during this exfoliating treatment grow back.

ON SET OF RESULTS

Two to three days after the procedure, the skin may feel red or scraped. Upon finishing a dermaplaning treatment, your skin may seem brighter right away, but it usually takes a few days for you to feel the full effect.

ANAESTHETIC

Since the procedure is not painful, anesthesia or numbing creams are not required.

PROCEDURE

  • Dermaplaning removes dead skin and hair using a surgical blade called a dermatome. In addition to microplaning, it is sometimes called blading.
  • Smooth, radiant, and youthful looking facial skin is the goal of the treatment. Proponents claim that dermaplaning can smooth skin and remove “peach fuzz,” as well as improve acne scars, dry skin, and sun-damaged skin.
  • Professionals perform Dermaplaning safely and with minimal preparation. Prior to the procedure, alpha or beta hydroxy acids can help loosen dead skin cells. After the procedure, dry the face completely.
  • Professionals performing the procedure will use a sterilized 10-gauge scalpel held at an angle of 45 degrees. Skin will be pulled taut, and short movements will be made using the blade against the grain of the hair on the skin.
  • Dermaplaning requires little, if any, downtime. They can schedule their treatment session during a lunch break, so they do not need to take time off work. The procedure can be repeated as often as twice a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dermaplaning Your Questions Answered

Dermaplaning is recommended for people with aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. As a result of dermaplaning, shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation can also be reduced.

A skincare professional who is properly trained can perform this treatment safely. When you shave your legs, your skin is not at risk. Additionally, this procedure does not cause any downtime.

The process of dermaplaning involves a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. Many people think that all hair removal, including waxing and threading, is painful, but Dermaplaning is completely painless. Dermaplaning can cause very minor cuts to the skin since the pressure used cannot cause deep cuts. The cuts heal within 24 to 48 hours.

I don’t. A person’s body contains two types of hair: vellus hair and terminal hair. In contrast, terminal hairs are located on the scalp, underarms, and pubic region, while Vellus hairs are found on the palms, soles, lips and genital areas. Soft and fine vellus hair regrows at the same rate and texture.

A buildup of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin is known as hyperkeratosis. Chemical peels can penetrate deeper into the dermis by removing this first layer, making them more effective. Skin is left rejuvenated and refreshed after dermaplaning and a chemical peel. They work together to promote skin growth and address aging and sun spots.

Dermaplaning typically takes 30 to 45 minutes and is performed every 3 to 4 weeks. In order for the treatment to be effective, your skin needs to regenerate before your next appointment.

Physical exfoliation is available in both options. As well as removing vellus hairs (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin, dermaplaning and microdermabrasion also exfoliate the skin, but not in the same way.
